1:54 p.m., Feb. 22, 2016–From chemistry to computers to clean water and alternative energy sources, engineering students at the University of Delaware are investing their skills to address an enormous variety of problems around the world.
To mark the national celebration of Engineers Week 2016, examples of seven UD student projects have been highlighted on the University’s Tumblr page.
Among them:
- A model heart created on a 3-D printer;
- An experimental toilet to reduce contamination of public water sources in developing countries;
- A computer game that helps kids learn about the ecology of estuaries;
- A “nanocarrier” that could be a great help in the battle against cancer and other diseases;
- Work on capturing energy that now is wasted;
- A device to help physical therapy patients get into their exercises; and
- The international collaboration of Engineers Without Borders.
Other events this week include speed mentoring, the Order of the Engineer Ring Ceremony, a student banquet, a dodgeball tournament, broomball, and a “Texas Hold ’Em” math game. The week’s schedule is listed on the College of Engineering’s website.
