February 28 Spring Open House at the Idea Factory

Come see what we are all about... How you can get involved... What the impetus for this program series is... Interested in talking to us about; Joining a student group relating to disabilities; Research projects/possibilities; Various community outreach programs relating to people with disabilities? SEM, a program of the ASEL, and the Office of ADA, will hold an Open House at the Idea Factory. Literature and web stations will be set up for you to peruse at your leisure. Staff from both departments will be present to answer questions and chat with you. This is an informal gathering. All are welcome. No ID I mean Ideas required : ) however we would love to hear yours. The ASEL is jointly operated by the University of Delaware and the dupont Hospital for Children.

March 1 "Equalizing Opportunity: Tools for People with Learning Disabilities" featuring Christopher Lee

This workshop focuses on Assistive Technology (AT) for Learning Disabilities (LD). Mr. Lee will describe creative ways in which technology has helped him cope with his LD. Examples of AT will be on display. Registration is required, call Judy Trefsger at 651-6830. With appropriate registration, the $5.00 fee will be waived for students. Upon registering please indicate whether transportation is necessary; accommodations may be provided depending on expressed interest. This effort is also sponsored by the Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative (DATI) and the Network for Education & Assistive Technology (NEAT).

March 21 "Without Pity" - The HBO special narrated by Christopher Reeves
Join us in the viewing of this candid film about the thoughts and lives of people with disabilities followed by a group discussion with one of the individuals in the film, Dr. Paul Longmore, historian and professor at the San Francisco State University. We will communicate with him via video conferencing over the Internet.

April 10 "Architectural and Product Accessibility" featuring Larry Field
We are delighted to have Larry Field, Delaware's accessibility and barrier removal specialist, meet with us. Mr. Field has his own architectural consulting company, A. Laurence Field and Associates. He is part owner of several Accessibility Centers and is a long standing member of the Architectural Accessibility Board for which he was Administrator for 10 years. He and a U of D staff member will discuss accessibility issues.

May 7 Dr. Dan Gottlieb - Clinical Psychologist and Radio Personality from "Voices in the Family"
We are thrilled to have Dr. Dan Gottlieb come speak to us. This will be an intimate talk with ample time for discussion. Dr. Gottlieb will touch upon issues relating to disabilities such as alienation, as well as his experiences in his careers as a professional psychologist and public radio personality. Idea Factory

Located at 124 E. Delaware Ave. just behind the Stone Balloon. It is a single story building which is divided into two sections, the Idea Factory (IF) and the Delaware Books store. Entrance to the IF is on the side adjacent to the drive (off Delaware Ave.) leading to the parking lot.

Follow I-95 north past the service center and Christiana Mall exit. The exit following the mall will be exit 4B (Rt. 7 north). Proceed north on Rt. 7 to the first traffic light and turn left onto Churchmans Road (Rt. 58). Go to the next traffic light and turn left onto Continental Drive.
