The following is a list of ways that you can participate in any of our programs. Each section offers ways everyone can get involved; from high school and university students, community members, with and without disabilities, to businesses and organizations.
Participate in our online science place, Scientopia - a mentoring program for high school students with disabilities. We are currently recruiting all participants: students, advocates and mentors. The format is unique and is designed to facilitate a fun and dynamic learning environment and an online community. Scientopia consists of members who are interested in actively discussing education and careers, with an emphasis on science, math and engineering, and on disability issues. Because it is an online forum members are not restricted to any region. A global community is encouraged! Visit Scientopia for more details.
Provide a high school student with a disability a meaningful
work experience.
We are always recruiting businesses and organizations
in the Delaware Valley interested in helping shape the next generation of
employees/citizens. By offering students an 8 week summer internship in a science,
math, or engineering related field employers offer students a way to learn, first
hand, more about the day to day tasks of a career of interest. Help fuel an
interest and plant the seeds of the future. This effort is being realized through
a partnership with SEEDelaware. Visit
Internships for more details.
Donate computers, internet access, or computer software, hardware or accessories.
Help provide students with disabilities access to our online science place,
Scientopia. Student members may be loaned computers
in order to participate. Other computer products are also desired to help support students' knowledge
in computing and enhance online activity. For example, students could benefit from computer products
that would: explore the sciences, provide a better understanding of computers and the
internet, provide better access to their computer through assistive technology, or even
provide equipment to allow for video conferencing to facilitate interactive sessions
with a guest speaker.
Contribute to the education of students with disabilities at the postsecondary level.
Support DReAmS (Disability Related Awareness for Students) the University of Delaware registered student
organization. DReAmS is a fairly new organization dedicated to 1)creating a forum for students with
disabilities to discuss issues pertinent to their needs, 2) create an educational and social vehicle,
3) and to increase awareness among campus and community. DReAmS is
an integrated group. All students are encouraged to become a member.
